Common Impressions.

The landscape of Cornwall is very undulating with hills and valleys and deep ravines at the mouths of the rivers. The inpression is a varied landscape. In the often very deep ravines there is a sheltered climate, why you can develop a subtropic flora which is the cause of why the wonderful gardens have been built. As they cause high cost and much labour they disappear one after the other at an accelarating speed. I really hope that the idealistic forces and non-profit organisations will be able to keep those gardens which still survive with the support by National Trust and English Heritage.
When travelling in a bus you are so high up so you can look over the hedges. A common car tourist cannot see much in the English farming landscape due to the hedges!
Lee Persson had made a very well-balanced program, giving us many experiences and impressions. Among others she had aimed at find very good hotels with acknowledged good kitchen. Five course dinners! None who joined this tour had to go to bed hungry ....
That we were in non-season was good. No big crowds in the most popular places.
The hotels were good and comfortable, very high British standard. We noticed that Lee had chosen hotels thinking of the food possibilities. That gave a luxury inpression to this tour. Usually you don't have five courses for dinner.
The potatoes were fresh and why that was possible in April we experienced on our tour at the second day. The vegetables were fresh and not overboiled in difference from our earlier experiences of British kitchen!
The dinner table was laid with white table cloths and folded napkins and everything else which belongs to a very fine dinner. We could feel like honoured guests in the best meaning of that expression.
My ability to walk was not as good as I had been wishing but better than I had feared. That I had made some preparations in form of walking during the last months have been good, but my fitness and the strength of my legs had not increased as much as I had been wishing. Mostly we could manage to hang on, but sometimes we had to give up, e g hilly and rough paths.
The tour plan was very well thought out with the idea to provide as much as possible of impressions without having to be in a hurry all the time. The choice of goals was good, you cannot be able to see every place worth seeing. The reason why we sometimes was in a stressing hurry is mainly due to our bad fitness.
